Veteran’s Christmas Project

HARRISBURG LEGION & AUXILIARY UNDERWAY WITH VETERANS CHRISTMAS PROJECT

Preparations have already begun to bring Christmas cheer to approximately 200 hospitalized and aging veterans. The members of the Harrisburg’s American Legion Auxiliary Unit and Post 523 will be distributing Christmas Bags to patients at the Salisbury VA Medical Center and North
Carolina State Veterans Nursing Home as well as to our veterans residing in local assisted living centers and nursing homes.

This year’s gift bags distributions will be scheduled for December 9 and December 16. Product donations will be accepted through December 5 th .

First Graders at Harrisburg Elementary School will be decorating the bags and will include a personalized Christmas card for each veteran.

As in the past, the Legion and Auxiliary members will be seeking the community’s support in this wonderful project. Donation boxes will be located at the following sites throughout November and will end on December 5 th .

Harrisburg Town Hall
Harrisburg Hometown Pharmacy
Louis’ Grille
Lowes Foods
Rocky River Coffee Shop.

Copies of the “wish list” will be available at each location and will detail some of the following needs:

Toothbrushes/toothpaste
shampoo
deodorant
body lotion
body wash
combs/brushes
lip balm
paperback books (westerns)
puzzle books
lap blankets

Monetary donations will be welcomed and will be used exclusively for this project. Checks payable to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 523 may be mailed to Mary Ledford, at 5834 Timbers Falls Pl. Concord, NC 28027, and are tax deductible.
